HBO Steps further into Comic Con territory with ‘The Leftovers’ from Perrotta & Lindelof
We all know HBO for having some of the more grittier shows on TV. Boardwalk Empire holds down the Fall, while Game of Thrones rampages through the spring.
Thrones and True Blood were the premium cable networks big ventures into ongoing, fantasy and horror based genre series – earning the network the right to be a Comic Con presence for the past few years. Now, HBO is delving one-step further into Comic Con territory, with a new scifi series called The Leftovers.
It’s a fictitious world where The Rapture happens, and a bunch of folk didn’t make the cut. This would be something of a comical series if it were designed for a more watered-down network like CBS or NBC. However, it’s going up on HBO. So you know what that means?! The “bare butts” out in every episode.
The series is based on the novel of the same name by Tom Perrotta. Star Trek into Darkness and World War Z scribe, Damon Lindelof, helped write the pilot and is on board as executive producer. This will be Lindelof’s first big venture back into TV since Lost fizzled out after one-too-many seasons and a very “meh” series finale.
Peter Berg helms the pilot and the series is produced in conjunction with Peter Berg.
