We’re nearing the “Endgame” quite literally on Young Justice. Now that the truth about the Reach has been exposed, The Team will do their best to save Blue Beetle from leading the Earth into Impulse’s dystopian future. Unfortunately, we still don’t know what role Lex Luthor and Vandal Savage are playing in the game of Reach vs. Earth. Are they truly trying to help the Reach, or do they plan to betray the Reach at the last moment?
I’m inclined to believe it’s the latter, especially since Lex had Deathstroke steal the stone from the Reach. Let’s be honest, the only outcome Lex ever wants is the one where he’s in charge, running the show.
Sadly, we may never get to see Lex’s true endgame since Young Justice will come to a close in Episode 20, aptly titled “Endgame.” With the Justice League still stuck on the other side of the universe, facing trial, it will be up to The Team to save the day. They probably will. But there will be casualties. And, it will most likely leave The Team fractured.
Although the series may not see a third season, perhaps with a stellar ratings send off on these final few episodes, Warner Bros Animation can be cajoled into – at least – making a three-part series (that can be packaged as a DVD movie) to finish off the story. Call it wishful thinking from a dreamer. But it’s clear that the next few episodes won’t be enough to wrap up the great foundation and wide array of delightful story arcs we’ve seen come up during these past two seasons of Young Justice. Not to mention we’re still waiting to see what happens between M’gann and Superboy. Seriously, does anyone care about Lagoon Boy? Not.
