Game of Thrones Season 3 stages Internet takeovers

We may be more than a month away from the premiere of Game of Thrones season 3, but that hasn’t stopped HBO from going full blast with its advertising campaign.

Game of Thrones took out a full-page ad in the New York Times on Feb 25th and also skinned IMDB‘s homepage with a floating dragon – a smart, and ostensibly pricey, move the day after the Oscar’s. It was one of the coolest site skins we’ve seen in the past year, as networks continue to shift advertising budgets away from traditional mediums and to digital campaigns.

When Game of Thrones returns, we’ll be anxious to see the fate of Tyrion Lannister now that his daddy has come to King’s Landing, Daenerys Targaryen utilizing her growing dragons in action, Jon Snow as he enters the camp of the “King Beyond the Wall” and Arya Stark on the run. Those are our my favorite four characters going into Season 3.

Season 2 just hit Blu-ray last week, giving new fans time to catch up on the series before the March 31 premiere on HBO.

Check out Game of Thrones Season 2 on Blu-ray (you’ll need the blu-ray for the interactive in-episode guide, especially if you didn’t read the book):
