Sony Television Pictures has found the lead for its upcoming Beverly Hills Cop series to air on CBS.
Brandon T. Jackson, who was quite hilarious as Alpa Chino in Tropic Thunder, has signed on to play the lead roll in the pilot. Jackson will play Aaron Foley, the son of Eddie Murphy’s Axel Foley from the movies. This new Foley, also a detective, will have the double duty of protecting the rich and famous while trying to escape the shadow cast by his famous father.
Murphy, who will appear in the pilot is executive producing the project. Also producing is showrunner Shawn Ryan (The Shield), who is also writing the pilot script.
Should BHC get picked up as a series, it should be a great vehicle for Jackson, who has a solid body of work dating back to 1999. Murphy could also appear from time to time as well.
This is great news for fans of the original movies, but here’s to hoping that we see some cameos from Judge Reinhold and John Ashton as well.
