After side-stepping the main angels vs demons story arc in “Bitten,” Supernatural returns in Episode 8.05, “Blood Brother,” with our first present day joint hunt with Dean and Benny, Dean’s vampire friend from purgatory.
The episode promises some more back story to Dean’s adventures in purgatory as well as what happened to Castiel. We’ll also get to learn more about Sam’s relationship with Amelia.

The episode is aptly titled “Blood Brother,” which can have a double meaning. Sam and Dean are obviously brothers by blood. However, Dean and Benny developed a brothers-in-arms relationship while in purgatory.
“Blood Brother” was directed by Guy Bee and written by Ben Edlund.
