After three episodes of Dexter season 7, it’s clear that the series is back on track to rekindling the glory days of seasons one through four. While we may not have Doakes (Erik King) or the Trinity Killer (John Lithgow), we do have a suspenseful season without the cheesy melodrama of the Lumen era.
The truth about Dexter is in the open and the subsequent Dexter-Deb relationship is everything we could have hoped for from the series. Deb is struggling with her knowledge. She may hold onto the pipe dream of “curing” Dexter, but she’s not totally delusional. Deb knows that Dexter’s passions can end only one way, with Dexter dead or in jail. Plus, she’s concerned about Harrison. Thankfully, (so far) Deb didn’t follow suit with the Lumen saga. She has yet to take up arms with Dexter as his sidekick. Things may change, however, now that LaGuerta is once again trying to uncover the truth about the Bay Harbor Butcher and Doakes.
Seasons 5 and 6 were riddled with sloppy kills. Now, Dexter is back to being more meticulous and acting less out of rage. However, that doesn’t make him infallible. Isaak Sirko (Isaak Sirko) was able to track down Viktor’s (Enver Gjokaj) killer thanks to a GPS device. Sadly, Isaak’s knowledge came at the expense of Louis Greene (Josh Cooke). Since last season, we’ve been hoping to see Louis rise up into a serious adversary for Dexter. Now, those dreams have been dashed.
Our favorite TV serial killer has a new love interest in Hannah McKay (Yvonne Strahovski). Perhaps, she reminds Dexter of Rita (Julie Benz) or perhaps he can simply empathize with someone who is trying to bury a dark, shrouded past. Whatever the reason, in Episode 7.3, “Buck the System, we saw Dexter bobbling his DNA sample like an awkward high school kid who just caught a smile from the prom queen.
It already looks as though Dexter has been backed into a corner this season. Isaak Sirko and George Novlkov (Jason Gedrick) know Dexter’s secret, while he is still in the dark. We haven’t had this much of a rush since Trinity confronted Dexter at Miami Metro.
Speaking of Miami Metro, what the hell is Joey doing? As if he didn’t learn his lesson in season 6, sleeping with a material witness. Now, he’s sleeping with Nadia (Katia Winter), a stripper who he’s turned into a double agent against Sirko’s organization.
In this clip from Dexter Episode 7.4, “Run,” we see Dexter go after Ray Speltzer (Matt Gerald).
This second clip focuses on a discussion between Dexter and Deb on Harrison’s future should Dex get caught.
After watching the clip, I’m wondering if Harrison will be a casualty this season? Similar to Rita’s death at the end of Season 4, killing Harrison could be a way to completely clean house on Dexter.
