‘Last Resort’ Premiere – Favorite Scene (Video)

After watching the Last Resort premiere multiple times, I think I’ve landed on my favorite scene. Having said that, I’m even more convinced that the new series from creators Shawn Ryan and Karl Gajdusek is by far my favorite of the 2012 Fall Season.

Watch the scene from the Last Resort Premiere below:

This clip features Andre Braugher as Captain Marcus Chaplin. He’s a man of principals and undying loyalty to his country. Unfortunately, his belief in United States’ ideals puts him at odds with a Pakistani fire order from Washington DC.

Captain Chaplin’s conviction in the pilot is reminiscent of Captain America in Marvel Comics’ Civil War series (minus the fight scenes of course) as well as President David Palmer (Dennis Haysbert) in Fox’s 24.

Why is this scene so good?

First, it’s a pivotal scene in the pilot where the Captain makes his first stand.

Second, his Hannah Montana reference is humorous – definitely. However, Braugher delivers the line with such gravitas that don’t dare laugh. Instead, you’ll probably just silently mouth the words “oh, shit!”

Finally, I just love the way he says, “Colorado out!”

The scene reminds me of how much I miss Braugher in TNT’s Men of a Certain Age. However, seeing him as Captain Chaplin is an even bigger treat.

Last Resort premieres on Sept 27th at 8PM E/P. However, ABC is currently airing the full pilot online.

Sorry if I wasn’t clear, but please allow me to elaborate. I meant it’s a “bigger treat” to see Andre Braugher back in a leading role that will have a broad based viewership. I was a major fan of Men of a Certain Age, but the nature of the show limited it to the smaller population of viewers who would take the risk and open their minds to the style of show.
For me, it’s a treat to see great actors getting work. The action genre may not offer actors a wide spectrum of scenes to spread their talent over. But they offer broader exposure, which I’m hopeful will lead to more feature film roles for Braugher. Then, we can see him back in heart gripping storylines with a broader fan base.

Oh, you watched the entire premiere several times, not just this one scene. Sorry for missing that, however I still stand by the powerful weapons and danger make actors more bankable, and that should not be the case, meme.

You miss Braugher from Men of a Certain Age, but you like him more here based on one scene? Maybe you just like Braugher either way and like the fact that his acting talents are being used.

I’m a big Men of a Certain Age fan and I know Braugher will do a good job with his new series, but seeing a terrific actor being forced to drop their true acting skills and reassigning them into acting roles that involve some type of powerful weapon, gun, violence, or theft, is not a good thing in my opinion.

It seems that Actors are taken more seriously if they have something of dire consequence in their possession, rather than simply being taken seriously for being good actors involved in heart gripping storylines, aka Men of a Certain Age.
