Wikipad to Face off Against iPad and Upcoming Microsoft Surface for Core Gamers

This Fall, Wikipad will enter the uphill tablet war by targeting core gamers.

The new, fully functional Android tablet, is a joint partnership with Gamestop and Wikipad, Inc. It’s heralded as the first tablet to come with a ready-to-go controller attachment. The Sony Tablet S worked with a standard PS3 controller, but required additional configuration to do so.

The new Wikipad controller tablet, proudly toting HD visuals, looks much like the Wii U controller. It will also support PlayStation Mobile platform.

The Android tablet positions itself in the next-generation of gaming, which many suspect will shift from the console to the tablet. With ballooning costs for development, tablet has offered a cheaper entry point for both consumers and development houses. Now, if only there were developers out there creating core games for the tablet which weren’t merely rehashes of existing IPs.

With the Microsoft Surface coming into the market, 2013 will definitely be the year of the tablet war. Wikipad will face off against the iPad and eventually the Surface for market share. The new Amazon Kindle Fire HD will continue to be a competitor for the iPad, but doesn’t have the same target audience as the Wikipad.

Where will your allegiances lie in the 2013 Tablet war?

I dont understand all the processor-discussion-you-need-a1000-core-superprocessor-thing.
    Really.
When I bought my Xperia Play every nerd told everyone that it has only 1 Ghz.
I cant hear it anymore. Today there is nearly NO Game that I cant play on the Xplay.
And I CAN play! Meaning: Having a game on an superdupercorespecialphone doesnt mean, you can really ENJOY it, play it. Maybe it runs there a nerdy way with more effects, 2 frames more or something, BUT: You can turn it around as you want, there is NO gaming experience without proper controls.
Yes, you can play touch-optimized Fruit-Ninja on these Galaxy 2,3,5 , Iphone/Pad/Tab 6 or whatever. But REAL games? Shooters? NO FUCKIN WAY!
    Nearly impossible. NO fun.
THATS why the people are hacking Modern Combat 3 for example.
These poor guys are just compensating their loss of control with a god-mode. :-)
They just want a little success with their touch-controls in face-off with Xplay for example.

Btw. I could not understand the whole development thing the last years after the Iphone.
Everything touch, touch, touch. I mean its good that it pushed the touch-technology and usability forward. But even my Loox 720 in 2004 was more practical then most touch-only devices nowadays. And that just because of the fact that it had hardware-buttons and a d-pad. I was able to play Quake 2 flawlessly on an 512 mhz processor!
Try to do this an an touch-only phone or tablet… cmon! :-)

And if you take a look at gaikai for example, you see that you dont NEED processor-Power
to run it totally lag-less. Yesterday Ive played Mass-Effect 3, Alan Wake, Crysis 2 and Darksiders on my St5113 with 1.2 Mhz (!) Dualcore with a slow embedded Intel Gfx-Chip.

Perfect. So you guys wanting aaalways the fastest, blackest gadget should better think in front about what to do with such a power.
    Running Doodle Jump? An browser?

    Start to think practical.

Everything looks good except for Tegra 3. That SOC has compatibility issues with Gameloft titles, and it will also be outdated in a few short months when SOCs with A15 chips come out. If Wikipad can wait for A15 SOCs from anyone other than Nvidia to come out, this Android tablet will do well. Configured as is, the device is DOA.
