One of the biggest modifications to the Assassin’s Creed franchise, heralded by the AC 3 development team, is the improvement to close quarters gameplay.

In the latest video from the development team, we get a closer look at the “brutal” combat we’ll see in Assassin’s Creed 3. With so many redcoats to kill, there’s a bigger focus on dynamic combat, like that which you’ve sees in Batman: Arkham City.

However, long-range weapons like the rope dart and the bow will keep the feeling of assassination alive, while adding in a touch of 1700s flair.

About 3 minutes into the video, you’ll get to see the dynamic combat in action. Connor quickly makes his way through an onslaught of enemies shifting deftly between attack patterns. He’s also able to ground-pound enemies as if he had a fair bit of UFC training. While this may take away from the stealthier aspects of the game, the new combat system will broaden the franchise’s audience. Don’t fret, the developers close out the video with a montage of guerilla tactics that keep the spirit of assassination alive.
