Green Arrow’s villains are beginning to stack up in advance of the series premiere of CW Network’s Arrow, based on the famed DC Comics’ character.
Canadian actor Michael Rowe has been cast in the role of Deadshot, an assassin for hire and member of the infamous Suicide Squad. The character has been featured in the Batman: Arkham City video game as well as Smallville and several DC Comics animated series.
Arrow Executive Producer Marc Guggenheim told TV Guide, “Deadshot doesn’t speak much, so he has to have that physicality…And Michael certainly has that. He has that look.”
Kelly Hu (The Vampire Diaries) was recently cast in the role of China White, a leader of a South Pacific drug cartel and featured Green Arrow enemy in the comic book series. No word yet on if China and Deadshot will be on the same side or if their evil goals will eventually come into conflict.
In the comics, the Suicide Squad performs high risk missions for the government in exchange for reduced sentences. No word yet on whether other Suicide Squad members will appear on Arrow or if the government story arc will come into play in future seasons. However, it looks as though Deadshot will be a reoccurring character. When posed the question, Arrow EP Greg Berlanti (Political Animals) stated, “I think that’s very possible.”
