Lauren Tom is heading to Vancouver to join Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles on the set of Supernatural.
Tom is predominantly known as a voice talent, lending her voice to cartoons such as: Futurama, Kung Fu Panda, and King of the Hill.
According to THR, who broke the story, Tom could potentially become a recurring character on Supernatural. Although the details are sparse, she is reported to be playing an “overbearing” mother who is “intense.”
It’s difficult to picture Tom as the mother to any of the leading characters on the show. She’s obviously not the mother of Sam, Dean or Bobby (Jim Beaver). One would assume that for her introduction to be “dramatic,” she would somehow need to be connected directly to one of these three characters. Of course, she could be an angel or a demon, which could tie in nicely to either Castiel (Misha Collins) or Crowley’s (Mark Sheppard) story arcs.
Supernatural’s EP’s have stated that the series will shift focus to the ongoing struggle between angels and demons when the series returns on Oct. 3. Last season focused on the leviathan threat.
By the way, is anyone else pumped that Supernatural is moving from Fridays to Wednesday nights at 9pm? Can I get a Hallelujah? Oh, wait, Crowley may not approve of that.
