What can we expect in The Vampire Diaries‘ fourth season?

Showrunner Julie Plec knows and she’s starting to tease exactly what we can expect come September, prior to Comic Con.

Without giving away any spoilers yet, let’s state the obvious revelations based on the Season 3 Finale:

1- Elena’s (Nina Dobrev) a vampire. Yes, Elena’s a vampire and you know what that means. With all those emotions heightened, Delena is most definitely on. Expect a steamy love scene between Elena and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) to kick off the third season. Sorry, Stefan (Paul Wesley), you’ll just have to wait on the sidelines.

2- Tyler’s body is controlled by Klaus. The two are both returning so we’ll have to wait and see how long Michael Trevino will be acting as Joseph Morgan acting as Klaus. Phew. Also, what will it mean for Tyler and Caroline? Will Klaus use Tyler’s body to get his rocks off with Caroline or will he drive a wedge between the two.

3- Alaric is gone so Jeremy will have to step up as the lead hunter in Mystic Falls.

Today on Twitter, Plec let fans in on the first of many TVD Season 4 teasers: TVDS4: surprises, tragedies, new villains, break-ups, make-ups, romance and scandal, small pockets of happiness for all. And maybe some fun.

Surprises: What surprises can we expect? Well Delena is most definitely a go so no surprise there. I think the biggest surprises will come from part 2 of the tweet. The New Villains. Expect a few details on these threats to be revealed at Comic Con. Perhaps when Klaus gets his body back, he’ll be forced to work with Team Mystic Falls creating a new unholy alliance.

Tragedies: Terrific. It looks like more people will die. Perhaps Caroline or Tyler’s mom? I can see Klaus-Tyler taking out Momma Lockwood for some revenge.

Break-Ups: Yeah, that goes out to you Stelena. Probably, Tyler and Caroline too.

Make-Ups: I’m sure at some point Elena will get back with Stefan. Personally, I hope Tyler and Caroline get back together too. I mean the real Tyler. This could also refer to Jeremy and Bonnie.

Romance and Scandal: If there’s a scandal, I’m pointing my finger at Klaus. Once he gets his body back, he’s going to want to get all over Caroline’s body.

Small Pockets of Happiness for all: Let’s be honest. There’s no real happiness in Mystic Falls. People die. But, dammit, it makes me happy to watch and wait from week-to-week.

And maybe some fun: Party!!!!

So what are your theories and hopes for The Vampire Diaries Season 4? In addition to Stelena/Delan, Which relationships are you cheering for?

Ric is the one character that I like just as he was.  He was a great Stepfather, a good guy who’s best friend was a vampire.  No Ric wasn’t perfect by any means.  He was conflicted and drank but, I liked him.  He was a kick ass vampire hunter with his friend Damon and also, a stepfather to Jeremy and Elena.  What was wrong with that?  Just like they are bringing in Conor now they could have brought Connor in for that super vampire hunter mess too.

    Enjoy your trip.

I think they lost sight of what to do with Ric and then they painted themselves into a corner. Personally I would rather have seen him go insane and be institutionalized that way they could bring him back later without him being a ghost. But that’s just how I would’ve done it. In the end as you mentioned Ric didn’t kill anyone as the uber vampire-vampire hunter. It was wasted just like Mikael was. The whole Esther thing got things off track. Too bad it wasn’t Tatia in the coffin or it might have made more sense if they hadn’t told us before that Klaus ripped his mother’s heart out. They should’ve said he had a containment spell placed on her like Mikael. I’m a little disappointed that nothing more came of the necklace after they so much focu on it.

I’m due for a much needed break from my crazy job. Looking forward to reading and writing by the water. Talk to you soon. Take care of that grand baby. :)

You know how I feel about Ric.  I think that was another big oops.  He never should have had that spell cast on him.  In the end it wasn’t necessary.  They ended up desiccating Klaus and not Ric.  No explanation whatsoever.  Then the next thing we get is the drowning scene.  Esther being in that coffin was in my humble opinion was a very big brain fart and it was the catalyst that sent season 3 into the pits of no return.

Lake Michigan is beautiful.  Like a huge inland sea.  Enjoy your trip and try not to over eat the jones for TVD away.  LOL  Gonna miss talking to you.

  • ihatepeople

Congrats! Good size little guy. I’ll miss talking to you too. One of the places we’re going off of Lake Michigan might have access so you never know. God forbid I miss out on some spoilers. How will I survive? LOL. Taking the VD books with me.

Speaking of Damon, read something today where Ian said we’re going to see him dealing with the loss of Ric and how he’ll have a hard time letting anyone in. Well who can blame him after everything that’s happened? Hell I miss Ric already too. Haha

  • a_softsong

What would be nice is a really mystery filled with action and drama like season 1 and 2 without the cookie cutter approach.  Something just as exciting but totally new and thrilling.  That would really be nice.

  • a_softsong

7.14lbs, 21in.  Wonderful little boy.  Thanks.  And enjoy your trip.  I will miss our conversations.  Till you get back.  In the words of Damon.  Ta ta for now.

  • a_softsong

All that you said would be nice.  Kick a little ass. A few sorority girls.  Anything but what she has in mind for him.  And you are so correct.  Why Meredith as a drinking buddy.  I remember reading early season 3 that Meredith could possibly become his drinking buddy.  Who knows.

  • ihatepeople

Yeah I was rather disheartened when I read an interview yesterday with JP where she says Damon will be estranged from Elena and Stefan and feeling very alone. Then she said he needs a new drinking buddy. Please not Meredith. Don’t push those two on us. How about Liz. She could use a drink about now. LOL. I don’t want to see him lonely. We know he’ll miss Ricc but let him focus on cleaning house and kicking ass. Sex is always a good outlet too. Hahaha.

  • ihatepeople

Congrats! Hope all goes well. I’m going on vacation on Saturday w/o internet so catch you in a few days. :)

  • ihatepeople

I hear you. I’d like to look forward to the show with a sense of excitement and anticipation of what might happen next not dread of what’s going to happen. Maybe with the shift from trying to save Elena and kill the originals to dealing with the town council problem it will alleviate the feeling of repetitveness in the running theme with our characters. I mean it will still be there but hopefully in the background.

  • a_softsong

Exactly, I am not gonna stop watching but, my enthusiasm and excitement has somewhat dwindled.  I am going to give season 4 a chance. But, the cookie cutter approach is truly getting old.

  • ihatepeople

It is tiresome and sad to watch. I think as older viewers our perspective is different because a lot of us have learned what’s important and what’s not in life and relationships. Perhaps that’s why we get so frustrated with the running theme. Damon isn’t the only character but he is one of the main 3. It’s possible to write him a good story with the variety of writers they have. Repeating him being ostracized and drinking alone is predictable just like Elena and Tefan will be. I do welcome Damon’s new/old attitude and behavior. I’m not going to stop watching but my excitement for it may dwindle if things keep recycling.

  • a_softsong

New grandson on the way.  On my way to the hospital.  TTYL

  • a_softsong

After reading the last article, I have lost most of my optimism.  It doesn’t matter if they hired JJ Abrams, he’d still have to get the script approved.  If, it didn’t call for Damon being rejected, beat up, emotionally abused and his character assassinated, the script would be rejected out of hand.  It really is sad that it seems they would prefer cookie cutter scripting rather than a fresh new approach.

  • a_softsong

…Julie Plec says, noting that Damon will be on the outs with both Elena and Stefan in the premiere.
Both Elena and Stefan.  How hypocritical is that!  What a joke.  The writers should be ashamed to write such garbage. Maybe they are unaware of how it makes their two main character’s look.  I know that in JP’s mind, Stefan and Elena are saints but, on the screen they are far from saints.

Another thing is they are always trying to say that Damon and Stefan both have jaded pasts.  But, I beg to differ.  After Stefan forced Damon to feed, Damon had no choice but to drink human blood.  Yes, Damon has killed but, in 1912 Sage taught him how to conduct himself.  Keep in mind they were both young vampires with no real guidance.

Damon was never just an out right killer.  Sure, he killed but not to the extreme like Stefan.  I really don’t understand how in the minds of the writing staff that a brutal serial killer vampire is redeemed so easily.

  • ihatepeople

It can be if it’s written well by someone who has a passion for it. Keep fingers crossed.

  • a_softsong

    Thanks for the article.

Damon, getting the short end of the stick is nothing new at all and it’s like I said before, getting really old.  It is boring and you would think that there would be more creativity in the writers room.  Beating up on a character just because you can’t come up with a decent storyline, show a lack of creativity.  There are many directions that a fictional story can take but a cookie cutter story just gets boring as time goes on.

I have a feeling that they will continue the same story line, without regard for the older audience.  When we watch we see things through the eyes of experience as well as what’s on the screen.  If they don’t mind loosing our attention then, they should keep in the direction that they are going.I don’t think people will actually just stop watching but, I do think it will not be a priority.  The good thing for the show is it really doesn’t have any competition of Thursday night other than possible sports. When you look at the actual numbers, it is only number one on the CW.

  • ihatepeople

Yes, he is steadfast in his feelings despite the hurt and his “lashing out” behavior.  He’ll always be there when she needs him despite how everyone treats him because his love is unconditional.  I hope that by series end she finally sees and appreciates at the very least his support as a friend.

  • ihatepeople

Check this out from Examiner http://www.examiner.com/article/vampire-diaries-season-4-spoilers-damon-and-the-love-triangle

Not that we didn’t expect Damon to be on the outside with everyone.  As we said they’ll all be against him for being upset and trying to fix things while Stefan will be a hero.  Anyway it just makes me sad for him always alone and this time he doesn’t even have Ric.  I hope they come up with someone else besides Meredith as his “drinking buddy”.  Right now Bex could use to get hammered too but we know that won’t happen again.  LOL.

  • a_softsong

Now if they actually do this correctly JP will get her epic love story.  Damon is so steadfast and level headed in his approach to things.  He will not push her but he will be there to check Stefan whenever he’s screwing up.  LOL  How sweet is Damon.
