in Activision, Film & Movies

Wreck-it Ralph is already being called this year’s Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, and it hasn’t even premiered yet. The upcoming CG film from Disney features the voices of John C. Reilly, Sarah Silverman, Jack McBrayer, and Jane Lynch. The story centers on an 8-bit game villain who dreams of becoming a hero.

Activision has just announced that the game adaptation will be available exclusively for the Nintendo Wii, 3DS and DS systems.

Perhaps it’s not such a surprising move considering the movie features King Koopa, aka Bowser, a core character in the Super Mario franchise owned by Nintendo. However, the growing core gaming fans interested in seeing the movie – who don’t own a Wii – will not have a chance to play the adapted game.

According the Activision, events in the game take place some time after the movie. The game will also feature two-player local cooperative play on the Wii. No word yet on any Wii-U action or whether an XBLA or PSN version will become available at a later date.

The game picks up where the movie leaves off as Ralph partners with Fix-It Felix and sets out to save their friends and home from a huge Cy-Bug invasion. Pounding through all-new levels in the “Wreck-It Ralph” universe, like Sugar Rush, Hero’s Duty, and Fix-It Felix, Jr., players will have to use Ralph’s destructive strength to beat by the Cy-Bugs, while switching back to Felix to repair the damage. With story campaign and two-player co-op on the Wii platform, players can switch between Ralph and Felix to solve action-packed puzzles and collect “Hero Medals”.
