In typical Nintendo fashion (which is also the style of Apple when it comes to iOS devices), the Nintendo 3DS XL has just been announced. We all knew it was coming the moment the first 3DS hit the street. The upgraded handheld system will have a screen that is 90% larger than the original 3DS screen.
Unfortunately, the 3DS XL will not have two circle pads. One of the biggest drawbacks to the 3DS handheld system vs the PS Vita was the lack of two circle pads (the PS Vita comes with dual thumbsticks). Dual circle pads would make the 3DS more accessible to core gamers as well as developers seeking to add a few shooters to the 3D handheld system’s roster. Some gamers have opted to buy the circle pad pro, an attachment that goes under the 3DS and adds on a second circle pad. Instead of simply adding a larger screen, it would have been nice to see Nintendo also throw in a second circle pad.
The Nintendo 3DS XL will be available August 19 for $199.99. It will be available in red, blue and black.
