Those hot summer days are about to be joined by some hot summer nights. True Blood season five premieres this Sunday on HBO and fans are anxiously waiting to pick up where we left off on last year’s season finale.
The last time we were in Bon Temps, Tara (Rutina Wesley) was shot in the head. Rumors are circling that Tara will return, but as what? Maybe she’ll die and posses Lafayette (Nelsan Ellis). Maybe she’ll become a ghost or better yet a zombie. There is always the possibility she could become the one thing she truly hates: a vampire. We’ll have to wait until Sunday to find out.
Jason (Ryan Kwanten) was last seen with Reverend Newlin (Michael McMillian). Newlin was once the outspoken leader of “Fellowship of the Sun.” But he’s now a vampire and has it in for Jason. Side note: does anyone else wonder if Jason has a litter of warepanther babies running around HotShot? Hopefully we’ll get a glimpse of what’s going on there as well as what crazy Newlin is up to.
On the romance front, Sookie (Anna Paquin) kicked both and Eric (Alexander Skarsgard) and Bill (Stephen Moyer) to the curb at the end of season 4. Her heart may be broken but it finally leaves room for hot werewolf Alcide (Joe Manganiello) to slide in. One small hiccup is that Sookie killed Debbie, Alcide’s ex-fiancé. Sure Deb and Alcide were over and Debbie held a shotgun to Sookie’s head, but killing Deb could be a deal breaker in their relationship. Lets pray they get it on before they start confessing.
The best cliffhanger from season 4 was Russell Edgington’s (Denis O’Hare) escape. The super old, super powerful and super insane vampire is on the loose again. Last time he was free he killed a magistrate, ate the heart of a news anchor on live television, oh and also he tried to suck Sookie dry. There is no telling what he’s capable of now, especially since he’s had ample time to think about how he’ll get revenge.
On top of the cliffhangers from last season there are a slew of new characters about to be introduced. One is Eric’s sister, Anna (Lucy Griffiths) who is a member of the Authority. Christopher Meloni also joins the cast this season as Roman, the head of the authority. We’ve waited 5 seasons to meet this allusive “Authority” and no doubt Meloni wont leave us disappointed.
There are so many more promising storylines for season 5 it’s hard to keep up. Also, this is showrunner Alan Ball’s last season. No doubt he’ll want to leave his mark, which is sure to make season 5 a season to remember.
