E3 2012: Splinter Cell Blacklist Demands Kinect

You may not be a Kinect fan yet. But core gamers are in for a surprise now that Ubisoft is raising the bar on Kinect integration. I know what you’re thinking, you don’t want to use your hands to simulate shooting and the Kinect camera will never be that responsive. After all, FPS gaming is all about dual-thumbsticks right?

Starting with Splinter Cell Blacklist, the franchise will integrate Kinect voice into stealth combat. Instead of simply using the D-Pad to cause distraction commands, players will be able to perform more natural voice actions.

For instance, at the Microsoft E3 2012 Press panel, Ubisoft had its player hang from the side of a building. In order to call over an enemy for a stealth kill, he yelled, “Hey You.” Naturally, the enemy walked over (what a moron). The combat was pretty awesome and we saw a lot of slow motion kills, so we’ll definitely be looking out for this one.

Splinter Cell Blacklist will also have Co-Op and Spy vs Mercs returns. The game will ship Spring 2013.

So will you buy a Kinect simply to tease a few calls to enemies? I’m not sold, but I’ll definitely be playing some Splinter Cell Blacklist.
