If there is one thing as constant as the sun rising, it’s that each year a new Lucas project will be announced that adds to, builds on and undoubtedly milks the Star Wars franchise.
The latest Star Wars release comes from LucasArts, the game making division of the merchandising behemoth that is George Lucas. Star Wars 1313 is heralded as the darkest Star Wars game yet. It’s a third-person adventure that takes you into the Coruscant underworld. It’s also a joint project across several Lucasfilm companies, including: LucasArts, Industrial Light & Magic (ILM), Lucasfilm Animation Ltd. and Skywalker Sound. When ILM is involved, you know the visuals have to be spectacular. Let’s just hope the gameplay matches up.
The game is named after Level 1313, a criminal underground deep below the surface of planet Coruscant. Gamers play as a bounty hunter. Acccording to LucasArts, gamers will use “human skills and gadgets”. So if you were expecting more force powers think again. It’s an ambitious move. Most LucasArts games use the Force as a linchpin in gameplay. To step out of that crutch is a bold move. Force powers and lightsabers are after all the two things that make the Star Wars world unique in the market.
LucasArts will be showcasing Star Wars 1313 at E3 next week and we’ll be on hand to check it out.
