You can’t keep a good nurse down.

Showtime has just announced that Nurse Jackie, starring Edie Falco as Jackie Peyton, will return to premium network in 2013 for its fifth season. Showtime President David Nevins also announced that Emmy Award nominee Clyde Phillips will be coming aboard as the new showrunner for nursing’s dark comedy. Phillips, who worked as showrunner on Dexter before leaving after the Season 4 finale, will join Richie Jackson as executive producer on Nurse Jackie.

Nevins stated: “Clyde brings a unique combination of skills in both comedy and drama, and he is a master at making entertaining and compelling television… We are so thrilled with the series’ performance this year, and we know that with the incomparable Edie Falco in front of the camera, the fifth season of Nurse Jackie will be even better.”

Nurse Jackie heads into production on its fifth season in late 2012. The fourth season also starred Eve Best, Merritt Wever, Paul Schulze, Dominic Fumusa, Anna Deavere Smith and Peter Facinelli.
