Beware of SPOILERS if you haven’t caught up on Sons of Anarchy, but I have some exciting news to share. There are casting news and then there are Sons of Anarchy casting news, and perhaps none as big as the crucial role of ex-drug lord Damon Pope. In the Season 4 finale, we saw Pope’s daughter murdered by Tig and that act of violence is sure to wreak havoc for Jax and SAMCRO for Season 5.
On May 12, creator Kurt Sutter tweeted this out to his fans:
“we have our damon pope. that news will break soon. couldn’t be more thrilled with the choice. top notch actor. and a very unique choice.”

Harold Perrineau
You’ve seen him wheeled around the prisons of HBO’s Oz as Agustus, and you’ve seen him yell, “WALT!” all over the island of Lost. Perrineau is so cool his voice kicked ass in the Marvel Anime: Blade series as the baddest vampire slayer in the Marvel Universe. And how could anyone forget his Mercutio in Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo + Juliet? TV Line broke the news earlier today.
We’re extremely pleased with the casting as Perrineau has a wide range of acting prowess and is a truly unique choice to enter the world of SAMCRO. He’ll be joining Jimmy Smits who was the first major Season 5 announcement as Nero Padilla, a dangerous and unlikely mentor for Jax. Chuck Zito is also going to guest-star in the upcoming season too. I think I can speak for all SOA fans, when I say that the fall can’t come soon enough.
