Winter is Coming may be the phrase that northerners use on Game of Thrones, but it’s also the phrase Ubisoft will be heralding as we move towards the Fall release of Assassin’s Creed III.

The latest teaser shows our favorite lineage of assassin’s hunting down the most deadly prey on Earth. The Human.

The story takes place in colonial America, beginning in 1777, a year after the Declaration of Independence was signed and six years prior to the formal end of the Revolutionary War when the Treaty of Paris was signed in 1783.

As you can see from the teaser trailers, assassin’s like hunting Red Coats just as much as American soldiers. Ubisoft is running a promotion to Unlock the gameplay trailer on Facebook. Once the fan page receives 1,776,000 shares (including tweets), the gameplay trailer will unlock. It’s a smart promotion and will help Ubisoft to gauge potential sales numbers months in advance. The publisher is already stating that Assassin’s Creed 3 will most likely be its most pre-ordered game of all time.

The game’s story will take place over the course of 30 years and is expected to be the most ambitious Assassin’s Creed game yet, allowing gamers to both hunt and climb trees. The new winter environment immediately sets this game apart from its predecessors and should open up a new world of gameplay.

Personally, I can’t wait to bury one of those Red Coat’s in the snow.

Assassin’s Creed 3 hits all next-gen consoles in October.
