It’s no secret that Netflix is in the content production game, having produced new series Lilyhammer, signing up for two seasons of House of Cards (starring Kevin Spacey) and having revived cult classic Arrested Development for new life in 2013.
But they’re not done yet, apparently.
According to TV Guide, the Los Gatos, CA company is in talks with CBS to bring back Jericho for a third season. The defunct show was famously revived by the network following subpar ratings performance in its first season. The second season fared no better; CBS again cancelled the show after it failed to rake in viewers.
This news is certain to reignite the ‘fandemonium’ that surround the show during its run. The show’s cult following was the main reason it was given new life. The show’s existing episodes are also heavily watched on Netflix streaming.
But before you go celebrating the return to this Kansas town, remember that talks are very preliminary. Production of new episodes would have to make financial sense for CBS and Netflix (in particular). The company has been walking on eggshells with investors lately as their stock has been punished for a series of missteps with customers (read: Qwikster) and the rising costs of licensed content. Further, the cast and production team would have to be available to work on new episodes as well.
If you’re a Jericho fan, it’s time to start crossing those fingers!
