“I know Kung Fu?”

The latest trailer for Total Recall shows a movie that not only takes its cue from the original film, but also The Matrix.

The first minute of the trailer focuses on Doug Quaid’s visit to Rekall, the company that can implant memories in your mind so that you can live out virtual fantasies. Once that minute is up, you’ll see the guards (that look like Storm Troopers) fly in to secure Quaid.

However, just as the Recall Storm Troopers go in for the arrest, the camera switches over to bullet time so that we can see Quaid unlocking those secret memories in his mind. It’s a page from The Matrix, Quaid goes from simple man to Ninja Assassin in a heartbeat.

The action is a definite step up from the original film, which starred Arnold Schwarzenegger.

At 1:27-1:40 you get to see Kate Beckinsale as Lori. She’s Quaid’s sexy love interest. And based off of the action, it’s hard not to picture her as Quaid’s Trinity.

Unlike Neo, however, at 1:31 it looks like Quaid “makes the first jump.” He takes a leap off of a building as though it’s business as usual. Perhaps this Quaid thinks that he’s The Amazing Spider-Man as well.

I’m officially excited for this film. It’s an August release, after the lead summer blockbusters, but it may be one of the best.
