We chose The Amazing Spider-Man as one of the Top 25 Films We want to see in 2012 and that hasn’t changed. A big reason we wanted to see the franchise rebooted was that we wanted to see what changes would be made in this new leg of the franchise. Columbia pictures has decided to release the official synopsis of The Amazing Spider-Man, set to be released on July 3, 2012 in 2D, 3D and IMAX. Read the offical plot below:
“The Amazing Spider-Man” is the story of Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield, The Social Network), an outcast high schooler who was abandoned by his parents as a boy, leaving him to be raised by his Uncle Ben (Martin Sheen, The West Wing) and Aunt May (Sally Field, Forrest Gump). Like most teenagers, Peter is trying to figure out who he is and how he got to be the person he is today. Peter is also finding his way with his first high school crush, Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone, The Help), and together, they struggle with love, commitment, and secrets. As Peter discovers a mysterious briefcase that belonged to his father, he begins a quest to understand his parents’ disappearance – leading him directly to Oscorp and the lab of Dr. Curt Connors (Rhys Ifans, Anonymous), his father’s former partner. As Spider-Man is set on a collision course with Connors’ alter-ego, The Lizard, Peter will make life-altering choices to use his powers and shape his destiny to become a hero.
As expected the back story of Peter’s parents and having that connect to Oscorp and Curt Connors AKA The Lizard are changes from the classic comics and the Tobey Maguire films which established The Green Goblin as the arch nemesis of Spider-Man. While none of this is a surprise, we finally have it in official writing and even though it’s a reboot with younger actors, there are enough changes and a likable cast to see this version through. I adore Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy and I’m glad that they’re establishing her as Peter’s love interest as she presents her own unique set of stories from which to draw upon. I want to see the new costume in action and the return of the artificial web shooters. And as a film fan, I’m excited to see Marc Webb make the leap from 500 Days of Summer to our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.
