2011 was quite an interesting year in the world of celebrity as it was really all about the good… Oprah Winfrey, the bad… Kim Kardashian, and the ugly… Charlie Sheen. In no particular order, let’s take a look back these moments as well as a few in between.
Shortly after launching her own network, OWN, Oprah Winfrey ended The Oprah Winfrey Show after 25 seasons. With that came some of the most spectacular episodes of the series. The conclusion of Oprah’s show but launch of her network made for one of the most bittersweet moments of the year. Here’s to hoping OWN becomes just as successful.
Not too long before the final episode of The Oprah Winfrey Show aired, The Royal Wedding took over everyone’s television screens and brought a fairy tale to life. Need I say more? Also married in 2011 were Gene Simmons and Shannon Tweed, Michael Vartan, Lily Allen, and Shania Twain, to name a few. And while everyone is now expecting pregnancy news from the Duchess of Cambridge among other new celebrity wives, there was plenty of baby news to share in Hollywood. Tia Mowry, Alicia Silverstone, Jenna Fischer, Rachel Zoe, and Alyssa Milano among many others welcomed newborns while Hilary Duff, Beyonce, and Jessica Simpson among others, revealed their pregnancies. And when one door opens…
We said goodbye to so many greats in 2011 including Elizabeth Taylor, Amy Winehouse, Andy Rooney, Andy Whitfield, Mary Fickett, Steve Jobs, Peter Falk, Laura Ziskin, Laura Ziskin, Jeff Conaway, and Elisabeth Sladen to name a few. While they may be gone, they will never be forgotten.
There was a lot of conclusion in the year of 2011. Regis Philbin left Live with Regis & Kelly while the final movie in the Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 released. And after 72 days of marriage, Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries officially went their separate ways. They said it wouldn’t last… and it didn’t. All good things must come to an end sometime. Oh, and let’s not forget the Arnold Schwarzenegger scandal. There were plenty of political scandals this past year but Schwarzenegger’s affair rocked both the political world and Hollywood. Shriver filed for divorce in the summer but there are reports that she is having second thoughts. Let’s pray that no matter what happens, everything works out for the best for everyone.
As for head-scratching moments, Charlie Sheen‘s meltdown brought plenty of them. James Franco‘s actions as 2011 Oscars co-host were questionable. Christina Aguilera’s lyric flub while singing “The Star-Spangled Banner” at the Super Bowl was no doubt embarrassing but also may have begged the question, “Do I even know all of the words to ‘The Star-Spangled Banner?’ Really?”
Looking back, it might be hard to say that there was more good than bad in 2011 but what good that there was definitely stood above the rest and give us all hope for an even better year in Hollywood this 2012. What were your favorite and least favorite celebrity moments of 2011? What are you looking forward to happening in Hollywood this year?
