It’s the reason many a celebrity couple have given to the world after deciding to forgo the “until death do you part” mantra. Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries are the latest pair of celebs to announce that they’re going their separate ways.
Kardashian said via a statement:
“After careful consideration, I have decided to end my marriage. I hope everyone understands this was not an easy decision. I had hoped this marriage was forever but sometimes things don’t work out as planned. We remain friends and wish each other the best.”
Just like that. After 72 days. And an estimated $10 Million dollar wedding that was publicized more than the release of a blockbuster movie.
Were we all duped into thinking this was the real deal? Was Kris Humphries effectively the winner of a Batchelor-style dating competition, with an inevitable breakup from his spouse announced after all the PR hits have been procured?
While marriage is no easy thing and it’s highly likely that these two just didn’t mesh well together, expect a large portion of the general public (or rather the ones that actually know of these two) to believe that this was all one big publicity stunt. It’s unavoidable to think of the ratings this marriage generated for E!’s “Keeping up with the Kardashians” and the amount of money that was made in the process of drumming up interest in the nuptials.
Kim also mentioned that a prenuptial agreement was in place and that she does not wish to pay Humphries spousal support.
