What would happen is No Country For Old Men’s Anton Chigurh went head to head with James Bond? The Walther PPK vs. a captive bolt pistol. Unfortunately that’s a character crossover that will never happen but Javier Bardem will square off with Daniel Craig in Bond 23, the next film in the 007: James Bond franchise. Bardem who is considered one of the best modern actors in film has already proven his star talent in Before Night Falls, The Sea Inside, Live Flesh, Biutiful, and Vicky Cristina Barcelona, but it was his riveting and murderous role in the Coen Brothers’ No Country that made film buffs see him in a completely different light as one scary-ass mofo.
Albeit, part of that had to do with his wicked hairpiece but the leading man had never been so terrifying.
Bardem who is on an awareness tour to bring attention to the human rights abuses to Saharans, petitioned the United Nations for help and is gathering resources to shoot a documentary about the cause, spoke briefly with Nightline’s Christian Amanpour about Bond 23, “I am very excited.” Bardem said. “My parents took me to watch the movies and I saw all of them. So to play that is going to be fun… They chose me to play this man, but I cannot give you many details.”
If the anticipation for Bond 23 wasn’t already sky high from Craig reprising everyone’s favorite British Secret Service Agent to Sam Mendes (Road to Perdition, American Beauty) directing, Bardem’s casting sends it to another orbit. Bardem joins Craig, Ralph Fiennes, Bérénice Marlohe, Naomie Harris, Judi Dench and Helen McCrory as other confirmed cast members. Bond 23 will is set for a November 9, 2012 release date.
