Feast your eyes on the first official image of Jason Patric as homicide detective Christian Walker in the FX pilot for Powers, the TV adaptation of Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming’s ongoing comic book of the same name. The Chicago Sun-Times posted the Walker picture along with an article that interviews executive producer and writer Charles Eglee who described the tone of Powers as a mashup between Se7en and The Dark Knight. The Sun-Times piece also gives a local perspective of the pilot shoot drawing attention to the locales where the pilot was shot including areas around the L routes especially in the South Loop, Cicero and West Side. If all goes right and the full series is ordered, expect to see the pilot air in June 2012.
It may only be one picture but it looks damn good! Every bit that gets shared gets me more excited that this comic-turned-TV show is becoming a reality. I love the gritty real-world approach FX is taking and hopefully the tone will set Powers apart from all of the other television shows that it has been constantly compared to (Heroes). Let’s just keep our fingers crossed that FX orders a full season so we can see the story, “Who Killed Retro Girl?” on the small screen. It would race up to the top of my list of Must-See shows of 2012 if FX gives the word. For some more teases, Bendis shared this series of pictures on Google+ earlier this month.
Powers also stars Lucy Punch (Bad Teacher, Hot Fuzz) as Walker’s partner Det. Deena Pilgrim, Charles S. Dutton (Roc) as Captain Cross, Carly Foulkes (T-Mobile girl) as Retro Girl, Bailee Madison (Just Go With It) as Calista, Vinnie Jones (Snatch, The Cape) as Johnny Royalle, Titus Welliver (Lost’s Man in Black) as Triphammer, Khary Payton (Batman: Arkham City Video Game) as Detective Kutter, Alona Tal (Supernatural, Veronica Mars). The pilot is currently being shot and is directed by Michael Dinner (Justified).
So what do you think? Any BuzzFocus readers out there who have read the comic from the start or maybe just started reading it? Let’s hear what you think.
