Professional wrestling and the entertainment community in general has lost a legend.

Randall Mario Poffo, better known to the world as Randy “Macho Man” Savage, died today after reportedly crashing his car into a tree subsequent losing control of the vehicle. His wife also was in the car, but only suffered minor injuries. He was a young 58 years old.

Savage, along with Hulk Hogan, played a huge role in popularizing professional wrestling during the 1980s. The two, with their larger-than-life personalities often duked it out during the days of the WWF (World Wrestling Federation). Savage was especially known for his loud, raspy voice, his flamboyant choice of attire and his theme song, Pomp and Circumstance, typically played at graduations of all sorts.

And who can forget his turn as Slim Jim ambassador? During commercials, he would often exclaim his catch phrase, “Need a little excitement? Snap in to a Slim Jim!… Oooooh Yeaaaah.”

More recently, Macho Man had diversified his entertainment career, getting into television, film and even recording a rap album. His most memorable film role was in Spider-Man, where he played the wrestler Bonesaw McGraw, who faces off against Tobey Maguire’s Peter Parker right after he discovers his spidey-powers.

We leave you with some memorable Macho Man memories from throughout the years:
