Getting ready for The Dead? The Walking Dead that is. The New York Times Best-Selling series about a group of survivors in the middle of a zombie apocalypse is about to make the leap into television premiering on AMC, Halloween night October 31, 10/9C as a part of its annual Fearfest. AMC assembled a production dream team that includes director/writer Frank Darabont (Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile, The Mist), producer Gale Anne Hurd (Aliens, Terminator), special effects/make-up designer Greg Nicotero (Land of the Dead, Sin City), and composer Bear McCreary (“Battlestar Galactica,” “Sarah Connor Chronicles”). The show will be full of gore and is designed for mature audiences. The vehicle may be zombies, but The Walking Dead is really about how unpredictable the living can be amongst the dead.
This is the first time a comic book of this quality will be adapted with such a high level of care on primetime television. The comic has been running since 2003 through Image Comics and is written by Robert Kirkman with art by Tony Moore and Charlie Adlard.
Kirkman has been a constant consulting presence on the production and said this about the show, “There are scenes that are straight out of the comic, and I think that fans are going to be thrilled. But at the same time, Frank is vastly improving the material, expanding the narrative and taking detours. This is a shot that, I believe, will appeal to everyone because it has an emotional core to it. We’re seeing very real people deal with very real problems and struggling to survive, which is something I think everybody can relate to.”
