Showtime is adding more star power to its upcoming series The Big C. The premium cable network has just added Liam Neeson (The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, Unknown White Male) to its roster of guest-stars.
Official Release
LOS ANGELES (July 26, 2010) – Celebrated film and theater star Liam Neeson will re-team with fellow Kinsey co-star Laura Linney in one episode of the new SHOWTIME comedy series THE BIG C, premiering August 16th at 10:30 pm PT/ET immediately following the 6th season premiere of WEEDS. Neeson will play “Bee Man,” an eccentric character who Cathy (Linney) consults for a possible treatment for her terminal cancer.
Best known for playing complex historical heroes, including his critically acclaimed lead performances in the docudramas Schindler’s List (which garnered him a Best Actor Oscar nomination), Michael Collins (earning him a Golden Globe nomination) and Rob Roy, Neeson has garnered rave reviews and fan adoration for his work in wide-ranging films. He has starred in some of the highest-grossing films of all time, including Star Wars: The Phantom Menace and Batman Begins, and last year’s blockbuster, Taken. Most recently, he appeared as Colonel John ‘ Hannibal’ Smith in the big-ticket summer remake of The A-Team, and last year’s Clash of the Titans. He also voices The Chronicles of Narnia trilogy, the third installment of which will debut in theaters this December.
On stage, the Irish actor has starred in The Crucible (on Broadway, again opposite Linney), The Judas Kiss, Anna Christie and One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, to name but a few.
THE BIG C stars multiple award-winner Laura Linney as Cathy, a repressed suburban Minneapolis teacher, wife and mother who reclaims her life after a terminal cancer diagnosis. Oliver Platt (2012) stars as her immature, but well-meaning husband. Oscar® nominee Gabourey Sidibe (Precious) plays a smart-alecky student in Cathy’s class. Recently announced co-stars include Cynthia Nixon (Sex and the City) and Brian Cox (Troy).
THE BIG C is created and written by Darlene Hunt, who serves as executive producer, along with Showrunner Jenny Bicks, Linney, Neal H. Moritz and Vivian Cannon. It is produced by Sony Pictures Television. Acclaimed writer/director/producer Bill Condon (Breaking Dawn, Kinsey) directed the pilot.
