How do you kick off the start of another season of Nurse Jackie? You do it by bypassing the cliché bells and whistles lofty premiere, and instead hosting a charity event for the real nurses. On Thursday, March 18, Showtime tucked away the red carpet and decided to hold a very unorthodox event to promote Nurse Jackie Season 2 – celebrating the many unsung heroes of the medical field. Edie Falco, Peter Facinelli, Merritt Wever, Dominic Fumusa, Stephen Wallem, and Arjun Gupta were on hand for the festivities. They were joined by series creators Linda Wallem and Liz Brixius.
12 nursing teams, including the Urinators and Fox News, gathered at Gotham Hall on 36th and Broadway in New York City to compete in an American Gladiator style competition called the RX games. Activities included the Sympathy Wall, where competitors scaled a giant 20ft picture of Edie Falco. The second event was Prescription Pandemonium, where nurses were locked inside an air-blowing machine and tasked with grabbing 5 red prescriptions and inserting them individually in a slot. The third event was Push Through the Pain, aka the Snapback, which was one of the most fun events to watch. Nurses had to deliver aspirin while being attached to a bungee cord. As the name suggests, many nurses were snapbacked from their target. The fourth activity was a Plasma Plank Balance Course. In the final event was a gurney obstacle course, where teams of four nurses had to stack themselves on top of a gurney and race to achieve the fastest time.
The team named “This One’s for Susie,” won the grand prize of $50,000 for the American Cancer Society along with $10,000 for their team. The second and third place winners each took home $10,000 for their charities and $5,000 for their team. The final 12 teams took home $1,000 for their charity just for signing up.
