Some promising news for fans of the recently orphaned Southland comes from The Hollywood Reporter today. The Warner Bros. produced show is close to being revived on TNT (with THR saying that a deal looks ‘likely’).
Surprising just about everyone in the entertainment business, NBC announced earlier this month that the previously renewed show would be canceled prior to airing any episodes of its second season. What made this decision sting even more is the fact that Southland actually was well liked (and praised by television critics) while other dramas (some new, some weak) still get to keep their time slot.
NBC will argue that Southland was a little too dark and gritty for the 9PM slot (Jay Leno has 10PM daily), but to cancel it outright was just plain wrong. Hopefully, it will continue its awesome direction on TNT. But keep your fingers crossed.
