dext-406If you were holding a candlelight vigil in hopes that FBI Agent Frank Lundy survived last week’s shocking parking lot shooting, then it’s time to blow out those candles and move on.

Last night’s episode of Dexter (#4.05 Dirty Harry) was a powerful, emotionally-charged session that not only featured some excellent acting from Jennifer Carpenter, but also pulled up the veil on who this Trinity Killer actually is.

I’m pretty bummed to see Lundy go (hats off to Keith Carradine) given the fact that he was a solid detective that had all the right motivations. But, his death, albeit sad, is a necessary evil for this fourth season of Dexter to pack a punch and move forward. With Debra feeling a fair share of survivor’s guilt, we get some great scenes to show how broken-down she is feeling. She truly believes that all the pain cause to everyone around her is her own doing. And with Deb coming one inch close to dying, Dexter now has the motivation to figure out who this guy is and to quickly get him wrapped in plastic on a cold table.

But not so fast, Trinity isn’t who he seemed. A doting wife? Two kids? I’m sure even a cute puppy is somewhere in that nice suburban house. So now that Trinity’s background story is being set up, we can now have a better inkling of where this season is going. Dexter will no doubt get close in on him, but not before finding out what makes him tick. It was a great reveal to show that Trinity is not some eccentric lone wolf, but in fact a seemingly normal family man, just like Dexter. It’s going to take Dexter some time to connect with him and figure out if he is in fact different from this creep that kills with a sacred ritual.

135072Meanwhile, Dexter’s not doing well at all in the trust department with Rita, who inadvertently discovers that her husband is keeping his apartment. And, I’ve got to say, she has every right to be pissed given the fact that he’s seemingly a recovering drug addict that already has had an affair, “works” late most nights and now has this fully furnished apartment that he’s keeping on the side. Yep, that would do it for most marriages. Expect some counseling sessions in the near future and Dexter to be washing all the dishes and taking out the trash. But can he possibly play it safe and satisfy his Dark Passenger at the same time?

The theatrics continue next Sunday with “If I Had a Hammer,” with Dexter doing his best to stay ahead of the investigation into the bludgeoning he witnessed at the office building. Here’s two clips to whet the appetite:

Episode 4.06 “If I Had a Hammer” Synopsis:

Dexter knows it’s only a matter of time before Miami Metro discovers the Trinity Killer’s latest handiwork. Therefore, he has to work doubly hard to stay one step ahead of their investigation. Dexter has begun to realize that the closer he gets to Trinity, the more he stands to learn from this very different beast. Trinity hides behind a well-kept mask, and getting behind that facade will require some extra prodding on Dexter’s part. Meanwhile, Debra becomes frustrated when she finds herself shut out from her own case. She considers bending the rules in the name of justice, risking her career in the process. LaGuerta and Batista come to regret a major decision, and realize that by playing by the rules they may have painted themselves into a corner. And when the friction between Rita and Dexter comes to a head, Dexter gleans relationship advice from a most unlikely source.

John Lithgow has been amazing this season. He doesn’t have to say a word to creep me out. When he was ordering the omlette!!!! My God! I was so freaked out. And, no he’s supposed to be a minister. He feels more like a minister from the True Blood Church.

I’m just waiting for him to try and stake somebody! Great Season!
