“Darker Than Black” is one of those Anime series that combine assassins, the supernatural, and government corruption into one unique and utterly bizarre tale.

darkerthanblackThe story revolves around a new breed of covert agents, known as Contractors, who possess supernatural powers. The Contractors may be a society onto themselves, but they often come into conflict with one another as they struggle to find their place in the world on both sides of the law. While the government wants to end the potential threat of Contractors to the human race, a mysterious masked killer named BK201, the Black Reaper, haunts their every move.

“Darker than Black” Volume 6 contains episodes 23-26, the concluding episodes to the series. The Contractors While Eric Nishijima tries to use his particle accelerator to end the threat of the Contractors, Huang, Yin, Hei and Mao stage a final attack on Hell’s Gate. With the Black Reaper’s past officially revealed, Bk201 must decide if he will bring about the end of the human race or fail in liberating the Contractors. The DVD includes an additional episode after the finale that is more of a love story that sidesteps from the main series.

The style of “Darker than Black” is vaguely reminiscent of “Ghost in the Shell.” It’s a great series to watch, but definitely one you have to pick up from the beginning to fully comprehend.
