“My Cousin Vinny” is probably one of the most entertaining and downright funny movies of the 1990s. The film stars Joe Pesci as a newly commissioned Italian lawyer from Brooklyn, New York and his fiancé Mona Lisa Vito (Marisa Tomei). When two Italian boys from the North wind up in Alabama framed for murder, Joe travels south to match wits with a legal system he is unfamiliar with.
Tomei and Pesci each delivered stellar performances in this film. Tomei’s comedic timing and believability was refreshing for 90s comedy. Despite the films critical acclaim, Ralph Maccio’s presence in the movie wasn’t enough to shake his 80s Karate Kid façade.
The films graininess has gone through an excellent cleanup in this Blu-ray upgrade. The sound has also had a much needed and excellent remix into 5.1 DTS. Several older films, being brought to Blu-ray this year have not had such a great audio mix in their HD upgrades, so it was great to see it in this 90s comedy classic.
This Blu-ray release is surprisingly thin on bonus features. It only has trailers and tv spots. You would think that for such a great film there would have been more features packed into this release. Still, “My Cousin Vinny” remains a great piece of comedy history and will make a nice addition to your Blu-ray collection.
Bonus Features:
- Audio Commentary by Director Jonathan Lynn

Good movie. Nice to hear the audio/visual elements received a nice upgrade. It’s a shame so many of these classic re-releases are so light on extra content though. If Blu-ray owners are the early adopters and likely film buffs, they’re the ones that love that stuff.
