There are some movies only a star-crazed-obsessed fan can enjoy and “Hannah Montana: The Movie” is one of them. The story is about a young country girl from Tennessee who leads a double life as pop star Hannah Montana. As a TV show for kids, Hannah Montana provides upbeat music and childish gags to pass the time. But, as a feature film the story dies a slow a painful death.

hannahmontanaBad isn’t the word for Hannah Montana: The Movie. The film is a non-stop compilation of recycled and overly abused Disney story arcs. Scrapping the entire story and replacing it with a collection of music videos would have better served the film. Miley Stewart, who leads a double life as pop star Hannah Montana, is forced to go back home and rediscover her country roots. After a couple of days, she falls in love with a farm boy from her childhood, and very unsurprisingly rediscovers herself. Along the way, she must dodge a British news reporter who is trying to expose her secret.

The shallow plot finds brief salvation through Miley Cyrus’ musical interludes. For example, “HoeDown Throwdown” is an excellent combination of hip-hop and country music. You’ll be thankful that this is a Blu-ray release so you can just skip around and watch the songs and forget the plot.

Abused gags abound in this film. So, you’ll get to see anything from a ferret climbing up a man’s pants to an exceptionally long revolving door gag. Using a revolving door for humor is acceptable once, but the segment overuses it before finally reusing the same device to advance the dramatic love interest of Miley and her would-be crush.

If you’re a fan of Hannah Montana or have kids who are star-struck, you’ll probably buy this Blu-ray. But, for anyone else, this is one movie and Blu-ray release that’s best avoided.

I used to be a big Hannah fan until this movie came out. This movie wasn’t exactly bad, but it was very dissapointing in many ways, it lacked all the good things which makes the series enjoyable (for me, at least) and had the most crappiest song ever (”The Climb”). Another proof that Disney milks the cow for what it’s worth and doesn’t care about that they destroys their products.

That is the worst review of a kid’s movie I have ever read. My husband and I saw this movie with our children and it really was a cute movie for the whole family. There are not many of those! I am not a star-crazed fan of Hannah Montana, and there are certainly days when I wish my 8 year-old had not realized her! But, this movie was not one of those times! It was a really good family movie.
