In only a few episodes, Godric, easily one of the top five characters ever on “True Blood,” has come and gone. The vampire sympathizing world will never be the same.

“True Blood” Episode 9, “I Will Rise Up,” began with a dramatic-silver explosion, followed by one of the most ridiculous scenes ever on “True Blood.” Luke decided to go suicide bomber in Texas. Sookie, nearly caught in the blast, was protected by the lifesaver Eric. So, everything might sound business as usual. But, then Sookie, thinking Eric was dying, decided to suck the silver out of Eric – literally. What part of “sucking” on your boyfriend’s archenemy became okay? It was not just a childish act, but outright stupid on the part of Sookie. Now that she’s had a cup of Eric’s blood, she’s forever attached to the sheriff of Northern Louisiana. And, in an instant, the Bill Compton “she is mine” Sookie has gone out the window. In its place, a steamy Eric-Sookie sexual dream sequence.

Despite the seemingly ridiculous start to “True Blood,” Episode 9 was one of the best episodes of vampire-hour to-date. Sam Merlotte has teamed up with Detective Andy Bellefleur, while Maryann Forrester has single-handedly taken over Bon Temps.

In “True Blood” Season 2 Episode 10, “New World in My View,” Sookie, Bill and Jason return to a Bon Temps turned upside down by Maryann.

Be sure to catch “True Blood” Episode 10 Sunday, Aug. 23.

Everyone’s bashing the silver-sucking scene and forgetting all the awesome depth that this episode gives to Eric. Yeah, he’s coniving, viscious and obviuosly wants Sookie for himself. At least he’s honest with that upfront. And his connection with Godric, the respect and love they have shows us a totally different side to him. Sookie’s character is soft-hearted enough to respond to that, even without the blood connection. Everybody needs to lighten up, that scene’s in the book and will make ALOT more sense further on in the series.

Godric was killed off way too soon- He was hands down the best vampire since Jerry Dandridge of ‘Fright Night’

i have some silver in me that I’m sure Sookie would love to suck out.

You got to love when people make a “this is straight from the book” reference, especially since, like most books adapted for TV, several “facts” and character interactions are changed.

But, then again some people just like hearing their voices heard on the Internet - like Tara Thornton’s relationship with Sookie. And, I believe “cup” of blood was hyperbole used to express the blood dripping from Sookie’s mouth, but that was probably wasted “Jungle red’s” sophomoric “huff and puff” banter.

I guess fact checking or research is no longer required to do a review. The name of the sheriff of Bon Temps is Bud. Eric is the vampire sheriff of area 5 which is northern Louisana. The bar (Fangtasia) he operates out of is located in Shreve Port LA. Maybe you haven’t had time to read the book, but sucking the bullet(in this case schrap metal) out of Eric’s chest is from the book, regardless if you think it’s stupid or not (folks it’s just a fantasy)! Nor did Sookie drink a “cup” of Eric’s blood. Or did you not notice she was spitting it out. Remember, Bill said as old as Eric is it only takes a sip or two of his blood. Once the deed was done, the only thing Bill can do to break the bond is to kill Eric which ain’t going to happen ,even though Bill is in charge of the C-A-S task force (crimes against Sookie)!

I disagree about the bullet-sucking scene. I thought it was fabulous. I thought it showed how incredibly naive Sookie is but also kind-hearted. She sucked silver (which possibly could have killed him since vampires don’t do well with silver) out of a vampire who had just saved her life. A vampire she supposedly hates. It’s a scene straight from the books, well most of it anyway, and I thought it was portrayed great onscreen.

I do agree that this episode was one of the best of the series so far.

The entire scene was utter foolishness.
    1) Bill accepting that Sookie sucked Eric’s blood because she was “thankful” that Eric saved her life.

    2) Sookie’s expression when Bill first walks in and her head pops up exclaiming she’s almost sucked all the silver out.

3)And of course, Sookie’s so brain dead in that scene that the only method she could come up with to get the silver out of Eric was to suck it out.

    Really?

Was that in a Bon Temps documentary on shrapnel or bullet wounds that doctors just suck the bullet out? She could have just tried to dig the bullet out with her fingers if she couldn’t find a sharp metal object. It’s not like she hasn’t seen a vampire nearly die before (Bill did nearly burn up from the sun and heal without injury season 1) and then make a total recovery. So using a cruder means to get the bullet out would have sufficed.

Maybe that’s just not sanitary and Sookie was worried about infection, so she used her saliva as a clever substitute for Purell.

Thanks Alexis. You have the only review I have read that stated the obvious, the stupidity of the silver sucking. It makes me wonder what the writers were thinking, besides that the viewers must be stupid. A 7 yr old wouldn’t fall for it…….and why other reviewers didn’t pick this scene apart.
