Blu-ray Review: Miss March

From the moment you start watching “Miss March,” you will quickly realize that this is a movie that only a horny teenage boy could love. Matter of fact, this is pretty much written on the Blu-ray package: “Do not open near wife, girlfriend, mother, sister, boss, grandparents, babysitter, clergy, etc…”

“Miss March” is the first feature from the co-founders of The Whitest Kids U’Know comedy troupe, Zach Cregger and Trevor Moore. The film follows the story of childhood friends, Eugene and Tucker. AS a teenager, Eugene was a staunch virgin who preached the gospel of “save yourself for marriage.” Tucker, by contrast, is your stereotypical teenage partygoer, created in the vain of Stifler (American Pie). When Eugene’s girlfriend, Cindi, coerces him into having sex on prom night, Eugene gets drunk and ends up in a coma. Four years later, Eugene wakes up to find out his girlfriend is now a Playboy centerfold. Tucker snares Eugene into a cross-country quest to find his teenage sweetheart.

This film is by no means great cinema. The story packed around several cliché jokes that you’ve seen before in film, TV, on the Internet or at comedy shows. Jokes include lesbian humor, endless “doo doo” gags, disability humor and simple-minded rappers with egregious lyrics. You’ve also got your stereotypical straight lead and crazy guy performing their version of Abbott and Costello dynamics.

Cregger and Moore knew they weren’t targeting sophisticated audiences when they penned this script. The humor is sex and “doo doo” from start to finish. If you’ve been a fan of their work, you’ll love this film. If you’re over the age of twenty-five and consider yourself a respectable adult, this film is probably not for you. “Miss March” does have a few entertaining moments, but they quickly become trite through excessive repetition.
