This fall, THQ will follow up their Nintendo DS hit “Drawn to Life” by releasing the sequel, “Drawn to Life: The Next Generation,” on the DS and Wii. The game feels like an old school platformer, except now you have to draw your weapons, tools, and everything else you need to complete the game. You even get to draw your main character, making this one of the most customizable games ever.

Multi-platform games that are released on the Wii generally lack controls that take full advantage of the Wii controller. Drawn to Life on the other hand is one game that fully utilizes the controller’s accuracy and convenient button placement. The thumbstick and buttons are used to control your character while the wand is used for all of the painting.

Painting is done in one of two ways: either on it’s own screen or during the action.

Throughout each level, there are easels that you can select to bring up a Microsoft Paint inspired screen. In this screen you have multiple choices of brushes, patterns, and colors. Each easel prompts you to draw an object to be a part of the games environment.  If you’re looking to get through a level quickly, you have the option of using a template instead of starting from a blank canvas.

There are also sections where painting must be done in the middle of the action. Throughout each level, you are confronted with areas that are inaccessible unless you draw a platform to cross or an object, such as a boulder, to crush your enemies. Your ammo in this game is ink, with different colors possessing different traits. The ink can be soft, hard, and some can even affected by gravity.

With great graphics and a truly unique approach to the platform genre, “Drawn to Life: the Next Chapter” is definitely a title younger audiences should look forward to this fall.
