Blu-ray Review: The Pink Panther 2

Steve Martin is back, in a role only he can play: Inspector Jacques Clouseau, the legendary-bumbling French detective and world authority on the Pink Panther diamond.

The Pink Panther 2 comes to Blu-ray filled with all of the fun humorous moments that only a physical comedian like Steve Martin could pull off. When the international thief known as the Tornado steals several precious world artifacts, Chief Inspector Dreyfus (John Cleese) is forced to bring Clouseau on board to lead the investigation to ensure the safety of the Pink Panther diamond. A team of leading detectives from around the world is assembled to join Clouseau on his mission to find the Tornado. This French detective’s methods may appear unorthodox to the untrained eye, as he causing chaos everywhere he goes, but he always seems to get the job done.

The Pink Panther 2 script was written primarily to take advantage of Steve’s physical humor. This film is filled with more slapstick moments than the 2006 film, The Pink Panther, which quickly sell the shallow plot. The Pink Panther 2 is also quaint, but fun, love story between Inspector Jacques Clouseau and Nicole Durant (Emily Mortimer).

The coup de gras of this Blu-ray release is the bonus 27 classic Pink Panther cartoons. This includes both the silent episodes and episodes with narration and character VO. You’ll get a kick out of hearing the antiquated audience laugh tracks queuing the viewers to laugh.

The Pink Panther 2 may not be a legendary story or comedy, but it’s definitely a return to the classic Steve Martin style of comedy. The film is filled with physical gags that will surely spark a laugh every few minutes.
