Blu-ray Review: Lost The Complete First Season

“Lost: The Complete First Season” is easily the one must have Blu-ray TV collection of the season.

If you were like most of the “Lost” loving world, when “Lost” Season One first premiered on ABC in 2004 you didn’t own an HD TV setup to watch Lost in its full magnificence. Now, that HD systems have become more of the norm in households, it would be a crime to not watch Lost again in HD. The Blu-ray release is presented in1080P (widescreen, theatrical format) with 5.1 uncompressed sound and Presented in widescreen, theatrical format. So, every jungle sound will raise your blood pressure, as the mystery of the Island is uncovered.

The First Season is a tribute to the masterful vision of showrunners J.J. Abrams and Damon Lindelof. Coming off of Alias, J.J. was approached to write a pilot about castaways on an island. Unfortunately, Abrams wasn’t on board with the initial script and, after partnering with writer Damon Lindelof, drafted the outline for what would eventually become one of the number one shows in the U.S.A.

The Blu-ray release is packed with over 8 hours of bonus footage. You’ll get to see all of the original cast audition tapes. One of my favorite auditions was Daniel Dae Kim (Jin) and Yunjin Kim (Sun). Yunjin read for the part of Kate initially, but then Abrams decided to create a role just to fit her talent. After casting Yunjin, Abrams and Lindelof immediately began the process of finding Sun’s husband, Jin. You’ll learn that most of the cast and script, for Lost Season 1, was created as a result of these auditions.

Another great Bonus Feature is the “Genesis of Lost” Featurette. The series’ creators discuss how “Lost” was conceived. This is just a joy to watch if you’ve been a loyal fan of “Lost.” It goes into how Lindelof and Abrams first met, as well as touches on Jack’s near death in the Pilot.

If you’re a fan of “Lost,” J.J. Abrams, or just looking for a return to good TV, the Lost: The Complete First Season on Blu-ray is one box set that screams buy me.
