On June 23rd, Activision’s second installment in its Little League franchise hits game shelves with Little League World Series Baseball 2009. We’re hoping for a major overhaul on the DS mechanics to help it to match with it’s Wii counterpart. The result: the Wii version was fun to play, while the DS version was a chore and overall visual mess.

The 2008 Wii release used some nice Anime style visuals that didn’t translate well to the DS. Frame rate issues made the Paper Mario Style look of the DS game look cheesy and under-developed. Also, the Wii controls presented a much more fun gaming experience - despite the waggle - than the DS stylus gameplay. The few lines (or rather words) of VO used just ended up being annoyingly repetitive do to lack of diversity.

Here’s the Trailer for the DS release.

The second iteration of the Little League franchise features 16 authentic teams from across the globe and 20 customizable teams, more in-depth customizable creation features that include selection of hair, eyes, pitching, and batting styles, authentic equipment from Wilson, Louisville Slugger and Easton and more. There are now nine fields to play at including Lamade Stadium, Volunteer Stadium, All-Star Field, and six all-new regional stadiums, in addition to brand new mini-games, collectable items, and brand new power ups that can change the dynamic of an entire game! Up to four players will be able to share the experience together when Little League ships next week.
