What would happen if you put a talking dog collar on a dog? In “Up,” Pixar answers just that question.

“Up” isn’t your typical talking dog story, where a human personality is slapped on top of a dog. Instead, Co-Director/Writer Bob Peterson and Director/Writer Pete Docter explores the dialogue people have with their pets on a day to day basis. The humor of Dug the Talking Dog is in his simplicity. Dug likes to do two things: track and give his master affection. And, that’s all there is to him. No mystery. No miracle. He simply vocalizes everything a dog does, and the humor is brilliant.
