There’s a war brewing on Lost. And, for many fans this is about as close to World War III as it gets. This war won’t be taking place on multiple continents, but instead in multiple points in time.
With Daniel Faraday dead, Jack has once again stepped up as the leader. Only this time, he’s leading under John Locke’s example. “This is our destiny.” At least, that is the thought floating around in Jack’s mind as he teams up with Daniel’s mother and Richard to detonate the hydrogen bomb, Jughead. Kate tries to warn Jack against altering the future. She may have been a murderer when she came to the Island, but Kate is just not down for killing innocents, even if they’re an adolescent Benjamin Linus or an unsuspecting Dharma Initiative. This just happened to be one of the best scenes of “Follow the Leader,” for one reason: Sayeed is back. When Kate tried to warn the folks at Dharma, the Others reached for their gun to shoot her. In that moment, fan favorite Sayeed showed up to save the day. Sayeed is like the Lost version of Jack Bauer on “24.” Everytime you see him, you’re compelled to do a Touchdown dance.
Juliet and Sawyer, aka LaFleur, appeared to be well on their way to freedom, as they boarded the submarine destined to leave the island with the baby Miles. Alas, Juliet’s arch-enemy and perpetual third-wheel, Kate, shows up. We may not have seen her handcuffed hands, but we definately got the impression that Juliet’s claws could rival that of Wolverine the moment Sawyer’s eyes met those of Kate. Needless to say, Kate’s presence on the sub doesn’t bode well for Juliet and Sawyer’s pipe dream of a sunset-happy ending.
In the future, or the present depending on your perspective, Locke is back in charge of the others. Unfortunately, Richard Alpert may not be on board with the brand-new Locke. John has not only taken command of his “leader” title, but Locke is also demanding to see Jacob. Who does John Locke think he is? Not even Ben has met Jacob. Guy comes back from the dead, and has only been on the Island for a few days and gets dillusions of grandeur. Richard expresses his grievances to Ben, who agrees that Locke may be a problem. Of course, when Richard’s not looking, Ben tries to warm up to John by ratting out Richard. Talk about a twisted Benedict. Linus may not be in charge, but whatever happens when the smoke clears from this war he’s going to be on the winning side. And there will be a war. John is taking all of the Others to meet Jacob. Not to “save” the survivors of Oceanic 815 stuck back in the 70s, but to kill Jacob.
There are only two more episodes left in Lost Season 5. The Season concludes ends with a 2-part finale, entitled “The Incident.”
