What’s a girl got to do to get noticed?

Try dressing up in a pseudo-Catwoman style outfit and call yourself Stiltto. That was Lois’ latest plan to meet the Red and Blue Blur. When Chloe gets mugged, Lois springs into action giving Chloe would-be robbers a healthy dose of “Heel Time.” Everything about her outfit screams Eartha Kitt from the Adam West “Batman.”

The Smallville creative team has been injecting an overwhelming amount of pop-culture references into their writing. Facebook jokes and references to Tony Soprano lead the way to quick quips from Chloe.

But, the creative team didn’t stop there. The Smallville writers have taken a stab at online fan-bloggers. In Episode 19, “Stiletto,” Chloe references a Smallville Red Blue Blur fan site, where Smallville residents play matchmaking with Red Blue Blur and Stiletto – to create baby Blur-Etto. This is a play off of the actual Smallville fan sites who created Clana for the Clark-Lana relationship and Clois for the Clark-Lois relationship.

I have really been enjoying the back and forth flirtation between Clark and Lois of late. Their relationship has been much more believable, than the overbearing Clark-Lana relationship, the latter being overtly soap-opera soppy. One thing I disliked, however, was Lois blatantly calling attention to her Clark-Secret-Identity ignorance. “Go figure. I want the Red Blue Blur, I get the exact opposite.” This could have been achieved in a much more subtle fashion instead of trying to dumb down Lois.

The ending featured a great tag-team between Dynamic Duo Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen as they pummel the local crime boss to save Clark.

As for Chloe, she’s been sidelined this episode from the action. Instead of backing up Kent, she’s out disposing of trash bags covered with blood. How can she fall for Doomsday is beyond me. This is reminiscent of Lana Lang, who had a great man in Clark and then foolishly jumped onto his arch-enemy’s arm. Why does every girl Clark get close to decide to date his rival? Jealousy?

Here are a couple of comic/character references the writers threw in the script to catch ear of the attentive:

When Lois asks Jimmy to give her a private superhero photo shoot, Lois says, “I was going to sow an “S” into the chest. Is that tacky?” FYI, it’s only tacky if you didn’t start doing it back in the 1930s. In 1932 when Joe Shuster and Jerry Siegel created Superman, wearing an “S” on your chest was totally acceptable.

“Lois? Who’s Lois? I’m Stiletto. I should get back to my cave.” Of course, the writers are back to their old shenanigans here with another jab at Batman. You’ve got to love that they have Bat-envy.
