All good things must eventually come to an end. And, King Henry VIII life on premium cable is drawing to a close.
Showtime recently announced that it will renew it’s hit historical drama “The Tudors” for a fourth and final season. This comes as no surprise to Tudors fans who have steadily studied the history of Henry ever since Jonathan Rhys Myers donned his mantle. With Jane a year away from death by childbirth and only two more wives left to cheat on, Catherine Howard and Catherine Par, Henry VIII has simply run his course.
What will take the place of the Tudors? It’s still to close to call. Showtime has been turning down new pilots faster than a Times Square hooker in the 70s. You do remember the 70s don’t you? Even L Word fans were disappointed to learn that the potential L Word spinoff was ditched like Jenny’s dead carcass.
The Tudors Season 4 will air in Spring 2010. Creator Michael Hirst will continue to write the final ten scheduled episodes. Hirst is currently working on a series entitled “Camelot” for Showtime.

Mr Hirst, please continue with their stories. You made us love this series, why take it from us? We have been watching and been here supporting your show. Do something nice for your fans! Continue with the Tudors, but all of them, not just Henry! Create the Tudors with the children. I have seen Elizabeth movies, but they are too short, (they are movies), we need to see how she becasme Queen and how she succeeded in her reign…please!
Continue, I say…with Henry VIII’s kids…do a story about his children, Mary, Edward and of course the Queen, Elizabeth!
Here I was hoping that the people at Showtime weren’t stupid enough to pull the plug on such an AMAZING show. The Tudors is really the only reason as to why I watch Showtime, and to end the best show that you have so soon, makes us wonder if you people share a brain, or even have one for that matter.
Why on earth would you name a show ‘The Tudors’ if you’re only going to show Henry VIII? Just call the bloody thing ‘Henry’ if that‘s the case. I adore The Tudors more than I can say, and if Showtime is idiotic enough to cancel it, I hope that HBO will be bright enough to pick it up and continue the story.
I don’t want the Tudors to end… I love it! I just hope Jonathan Rhys-Meyers does another TV series. He’s an unbeliveble actor.
I would like to tell Showtime, all the cast, crew, directors, & especially the writer this story has absolutely been the best series on TV. I looked so forward to watch weekly and rewatched all the episodes as many times as they were aired. I have bought all the series. PLEASE, PLEASE, continue this for a few more seasons. As a thought, possibly fill in the years from Episode One…it should not be that hard to do. The Cast in this series was absolutely the best ever on tv.
Thanks so very much for sharing with us all!
Praying it will be continued.
I love the tudors the last episode of series 3 just finished here in NZ. Every week i watched theprogramme and was so interested in what was going on i’d jump on to the net just to find out what might happen next. I’d love to see it right through to the elizabethen era as that too would be interesting.
Why lose the magic of the Tudors so soon? This series teaches us about Henry and his reign. We learn that he has children, but are being cheated out of having the same opportunity to see thier reign, and lives. Wouldn”t it be great to have the magic continue!
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE continue with The Tudors. As someone who wrote my thesis on Henry’s narcissistic personality disorder, I would hate for the actual REAL story of Henry’s reign to be lost to a blurb of historical text. Seriously, I am done with stupid mindless TV- why can’t the companies realize that we, as consumers actually appreciate the detailed version of these people. They are interesting, they are sexy and they were real. I would much rather pay MORE for Showtime and watch the Tudors then continue with stupid TV. LISTEN TO YOUR AUDIENCE!!
Please bring on Season 4, 5,6…..the sooner, the better. It’s fabulous!!!!
Its the first time I ever paid attention to a show from Showtime. It would be a shame to see this show go Please continue. We need to see The Tudors like the title said, else you should have entitled it: Henry! The reigns of the children and their infighting - needs to be shown.. just as everyone has asked!
THE TUDORS AND MR HIRST November 5 2009
Perhaps for a writer, and maybe even for production financial reasons at ‘Showtimes’ faction constituencies in business sponsors on television; it would be considered wise to make ‘The Tudors Fourth Season’ the last season. As a writer it could very boring putting your mind in the culture of the ‘Tudor Dynasty’ to often. However, I think the only reason why the Tudor Dynasty of Britain is so noted as a hall mark in history is because of Elizabeth The First, who was an obvious genius who was intelligent enough to pick governments representation due to her genius for statecraft. Elizabeth was a combination of her mothers high intelligence, Ann Boleyn and her fathers very capable intelligence Henry Tudor. The Elizabeth the first should be the prodigy that she was should be no surprise to any one. The ‘Tudor’ family and the ‘Boleyn’ family had a very long genetic evidence of very intelligent people who apex in the birth of Elizabeth the First, Ann Boleyn’s rejected daughter simply because she was female.
As of yet I have not seen ‘The Tudors Season Four’, but I do hope that somehow in Mr. Hirst final writing of this outstanding production of the ‘Tudor Dynasty’ largely based upon Henry the eighths character; that a precedence is given in the very last of Mr. Hirst writing to princess Elizabeth as that potential and dynamic character in the future of Britains history.
Why oh why must it stop with Henry? I would love to see the grown up Elizabeth and all the drama that led to her becoming queen as well as her sister Mary and Brother being the rulers… Personally I think the life of Elizabeth might be just as much fun to experience as the lecherous ways of Henry, god love Johnathan Rhys but seriously, Elizabeth did just as much as Henry did or more.
Like many of you said, the Tudors ended with Elizabeth I! To top it off, the Tudors began with Henry VIII’s father, Henry VII! I’m so sad and disappointed to hear that season four is the end.
The Tudor Dynasty did not end with Henry VIII…I wish Mr. Hirst and the Network Executive Committee would reconsider and not cancel THE TUDORS after the Fourth season. There is lots of history and drama in what follows Henry VIII. All three of his children have their hand at reigning over the English realm. Edward VI is crowned king at age nine and the country is ran by a regency council until is early death at age 15; then Mary is queen for only 5 years and manages to put to death hundreds of religious dissenters who oppose her endeavor to restore England to Catholicism and is given the nickname “Bloody Mary.” She is also had her sister Elizabeth imprisoned on suspicion of supporting the protestant rebellion. Henry’s youngest daughter Princess Elizabeth becomes Queen Elizabeth I and goes on to be the most emphatic Monarch in all of English History. She reigns for 45 years and restores England to back to her Fathers Anglican church. If thats not enough drama to keep fans of “THE TUDORS” tuned-in, well then I dont think Shakespeare would suffice either!
Last season??? Talk about ready-made content:
1) Mary Tudor married a Spaniard (”the enemy”), had two false pregnancies, ran rampant with burnings, all with E1 on her heels the whole time.
2) Jane Grey was manipulated right up onto the gallows by the in-laws that were forced on her (read up that THAT if you need a dose of a real dysfunctional family).
3) Mary of Scotland (the rightful heir according to most logical folk) could be a series unto herself–she blew up her husband, married the man who abducted and raped her (that poor fool ended up in a hole-in-the-floor cell in Scandinavia where he went nuts walking in circles), then she bled her keepers Shrewsburys dry and finally set herself up for the axe…
4) E1 — Virgin Queen?–she was cozy with her dad’s widow’s husband Tommy Seymour at age 14. One of her lovers supposedly had his wife pushed down the stairs so he could be available for E.
Oh, and I forgot James (Mary of Scots’ son, for those who didn’t know), who really did unite England and Scotland for those who’ll buy it.
This stuff makes Wisteria Lane look like the Fisher Price Little People Village. Congratulations, this is the ONLY premium series I never miss. Don’t quit now.
oh! i do hope that you will continue ’till queen elizabeth reign..me and my team mates here in the philippines are sooooo addicted to the tudors..that i tried to research anything to widen my knowledge of their lineage..and we would be very disappointed if it will end with king henry and katherine parr:(
Okay, and last post. How great would it be to see a strong but sexy Elizabeth I portrayed (in light of the dramatic physical changes Henry VIII went through) I’m sure Elizabeth could undergo some of that kind of Hollywood transformation and we could have some serious romantic intrigue with her and Robert Dudley…showtime would be foolish to let go of such a goldmine.
And here here realityhater. I’m with you. I never bothered with showtime until the Tudors. I only ordered the service specifically for the Tudors. I will not continue with showtime unless the Tudors is continued or if another quality drama like the Tudors comes through. Is that a threat? I guess so!
Camelot does not appeal to me at all. Showtime would be wise to carry on the intrugue with Elizabeth. It would be so great to see all that wishing for a son lead to her reign!
POO POO on “Camelot”!The single most fascinating and important Tudor is Queen Elizabeth I. Go more on the Tudors! I really doubt I would be as obsessed with any other show, and I probably would not watch Camelot unfortunately. Very disappointing. Even though I’m a Tudor buff, I even enjoyed some of the modern twists thrown into the Tudors series, and wouldn’t mind seeing that twist in Edward, Mary and Elizabeth I’s lives on showtime.
Looks like I will be saving some money on HBO and Showtime Tier pricing by eliminating it.
Note to self: Cancel the subscription. The Tudors was the only reason I really set my time clock each week during the evening to watch a TV episode. I’m not waiting until Spring of 2010 for the next episode. Been there, done that with Sopranos a few years back.
This could have turned into a real night time drama series for some of us.
