After two successful Bleach fighting games delivered on the DS, Sega is switching gears to make a Bleach RPG.
Bleach: The 3rd Phantom will have its own unique storyline built from the ground up. Now, many will consider this “jumping the shark,” to make such an abrupt shift from fighting to RPG. Unlike games like Street Fighter, with a superficial backstory, Bleach has always had a wealth of characters who each have their own intricate anime-based history. This creates the perfect basis to make a really standout game. My only concern is that Sega will rush this title to market, instead of really taking the time to make an RPG that can compete on the level of RPGs published by Square-Enix.

Bleach: The 3rd Phantom on Nintendo DS is scheduled for release in Fall 2009.
