In a largely expected move, NBC has pulled its great new drama Kings from its Sunday night lineup, based on declining ratings. The remaining episodes of the show will be “burned off” on Saturday nights at 8PM. And unless some bizarre and extreme turnaround in ratings occurs, you can expect that the show will not be renewed next season. In its place, NBC will expand the time slot of Dateline to an additional hour.
When I first saw the Kings pilot in February, I was amazed at how strong the show looked. But then I was thrown back by NBC’s decision to air the show on Sunday night, one of its weakest nights. But there’s no arguing against declining ratings; the show apparently didn’t even stick with those that tuned in.
At least we’ll be afforded the opportunity to see the rest of the series on network television. Two years ago, when I became hooked on The Black Donnellys, NBC pulled the plug on that show and aired the rest of the episodes on NBC.com. You can catch Kings on its new night starting April 18.

This is amazing! The quality of this show was that of the Tudors! That’s how amazing this show is. The calabir of professional and seasoned actors on this series, the plot, the twist and turns. It’s a very thought out well brought together show. But leave it to NBC whom has the lowest ratings in the first place, obviously because of their lack of Management skills. This show does deserve to be on HBO or Showtime, and with all of the amazing shows they air, I would pay twice what I pay now for one of those channels to scoop this up and give NBC the middle finger.
King is a great show and so well written and acted it doesn;t seem like it was given a chance. It’s more like an HBO or Showtime series I hope you somehow find the heart to give it another go. There will be many tuning in if you do
NBC; You don’t Deserve “Kings!”
The most intellegent, imaginative, artful, well cast, superbly written and delightfully different show on network television…by far! And what do you do with it?
You failed at adversiting it, you move it from Sunday when families actually get together to watch something good to Saturday when NO ONE Watches Television to begin with…and then you chop the best gift you had? MORONS!
This show was of an HBO or Showtime caliber and you idiots slot it where no one watched it and then wonder why it’s rating sucked!
NBC you’ve done it again, Surface was another, like “Kings” where you left us hanging. CBS did it with Jericho, but at least they knew they couldn’t ignore the millions of peanuts sent to Exec’s. But what are we to do with a paltry apology? “I’m Sorry.”
The last words spoken on the last episode of the BEST SHOW NBC ever had!!!
Well ok..I’m Sorry NBC..but I’m sticking with HBO & Showtime…at least there, I get what I pay for!
It is really not fair that they one cut the show and 2 i used to dvr the show so when it switched to Saturday i had no idea! i also liked the black donnelys that ran a while back and that was cut to. i am really sick of all these political and hospital based shows. also where can i watch the last episodes after the “Judgment Day” one?
We’re very disappointed that yet another good drama series we could really care for is being dropped. Most of us who wanted to stick with “Kings” would have told NBC never to put it on Sunday nights. Since the economy is the #1 subject these days, NBC and ABC should get rid of their expensive brain trusts and put the money into better programming. The last thing we want is to choose from another “news” show.
Nevermind mind, most of our favorite new and old series are on cable; TNT, USA, FX, etc.
How disappointing. I liked it. I guess without extreme violence, nudity, gore, explicit sexual overtones and profanity…..well, what do you expect?
It was a great show. Maybe Fox will pick it up..
WOW! ALREADY? AFTER ALL THAT ADVERTISING? MOST NBC SHOWS SUCK BESIDES THE OFFICE.
