Although I’m sickeningly not anticipating the upcoming G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra film, I’m surprisingly looking forward to the upcoming game release for all next-gen consoles and portable systems (PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, DS, and PSP).

The trailer looks pretty sweet and this trailer shows off some of the actual 3rd-person gameplay. I’m a little upset that it seems plans for an online co-op mode are still up in the air. It would have been great to play as the stoic Joe leader Duke with a friend running as the silent killer Snake-Eyes. We’re in 2009, and designing games with online play should be a no-brainer. Broadband is in nearly every console-gamers household. And, the Xbox 360 owners, who pay for a yearly Live subscription, deserve to recoup the value on their annual rate with more online play. Why is online capability as a norm still reserved just for FPSs? Even Marvel Ultimate Alliance made way for online co-op.

This G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra trailer is obviously for the PS3 and Xbox 360 because the graphics look way to crisp for either the Wii, DS or PSP. Despite the lack of online, I’ll be waiting to setup a Cobra thrashing party so that I can enjoy a Yo Joe! co-op game.

Some of the still released have appeared to be low on details, but a title like this will always be more about the fun factor.
