One long obituary. That’s what this season of Battlestar Galactica feels like. Every episode is more dismal than the next. And, with each passing moment, another member of the Battlestar Galactica has a tearful breakdown.

‘Islanded in a Stream of Stars’ had four major character breakdowns. Kara Thrace, the immortally tortured soul, attempted to end her Cylon husband veggie state with a bullet to his head, but was suddenly stopped when Sam jumped back on line using the neural network created by the Cylon sentient skin holding the Battlestar together. Sam’s back online, unfortunately much like the Cylon hybrid he’s just rambling on gibberish.

Helo, upset over the loss of his daughter and his own infidelity from frakking the Cylon brains out of Boomer, confronts Admiral Adama. Too bad Helo’s tearful breakdown and desire to take a raptor to find his daughter Hera isn’t enough to move the battle-hardened leader.

Adama has his own problems to worry about. He’s about to lose the woman he loves and the ship he loves more than life. In the hardest decision of the Admiral’s life, he tells Saul he is ready to give up the Battlestar, and sacrifice its parts for the sake of the fleet.

Surprisingly, I somehow felt sad for the conflicted Boomer. It seems she still has a place in her heart for the Chief. When Hera reveals that she has the Cylon ability of projection, she creates a bond with Boomer as they take a walk through Boomer’s dream house. Will Boomer betray eventually betray the Cylons? We saw the tears in her eyes as Hera cried out Boomer’s name after being turned over to John Cavil. Honestly, Boomer’s got to die by the end of all this. She just betrays everybody. And, this whole double agent thing has got my mind spinning. I get it. She’s a tortured soul of a Cylon, but I’m still all for Caprica Six’s desire to give her the death penalty.

What’s left in the last few episodes of Battlestar Galactica? Hera’s supposedly the key to the future of the Cylon and Human race. The only problem is getting the humans onboard with another divine prophecy. As for Kara Thrace, Baltar’s tests seem to reveal that Kara is a human that was reborn. How can this be? We originally suspected she was somehow linked to Daniel, the missing Cylon. But, this new piece of information seems to contradict that. Could Kara be the first Cylon-human baby, and is somehow a new breed of resurrection?

It sounds improbable. Let’s keep in mind that if Starbuck did die and come back to life, she still had an exact copy of her ship. Where did that come from? We also have to note that both the Hybrid and Sam have called Kara the harbinger of death. So, how can anything good come from Starbuck? We can suppose that maybe in the war two-thousand years ago she was the human who lead the attack on the Cylons, in which case Sam is just saying that way back when she was the harbinger of death. And, maybe her future will be her penance.

As the final episodes of Battlestar Galactica continues, we’re left wondering what will be resolved by the end of the series and what will be left to Battlestar Galactica’s next intallment, “Caprica.”
